PUBLICATION ETHICS

Sophia Dharma: Journal of Philosophy, Hinduism, and Society is a scholarly journal published by the State Hindu Religious Institute Gde Pudja Mataram. The publication ethics of Sophia Dharma: Journal of Philosophy, Hinduism, and Society follow the principles and guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

This Publication Ethics Statement outlines the ethical responsibilities and standards of all parties involved in the publication process, including the publisher, editors, reviewers, and authors.

The publication ethics of Sophia Dharma uphold three fundamental ethical principles:

  1. Neutrality, meaning freedom from conflicts of interest in the management and publication process;
  2. Fairness, meaning recognition and attribution of authorship to those who are legitimately entitled to authorship; and
  3. Honesty, meaning freedom from duplication, data fabrication, data falsification, and plagiarism in scholarly publication.

 

Publisher Responsibilities

  1. The publisher of Sophia Dharma: Journal of Philosophy, Hinduism, and Society is responsible for publishing manuscripts that have undergone the appropriate editing, peer-review, and layout processes in accordance with scholarly publishing standards.
  2. The publisher is responsible for ensuring academic freedom for editors and reviewers in carrying out their respective responsibilities independently and professionally.
  3. The publisher is responsible for protecting the privacy, intellectual property, copyright, and editorial independence associated with the publication process.

 

Editor Responsibilities

  1. The editors of Sophia Dharma: Journal of Philosophy, Hinduism, and Society are responsible for determining which manuscripts are suitable for publication through editorial deliberation and in accordance with applicable legal and ethical requirements, including those concerning defamation, copyright infringement, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, and plagiarism.
  2. In evaluating and making publication decisions, the editorial team shall apply the principle of equal and fair treatment. Editorial decisions shall not discriminate against authors on the basis of race, gender, religion, ethnicity, nationality, or political ideology.
  3. The editors and editorial team shall not disclose any information concerning submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the authors, reviewers, and other authorized parties involved in the publication process, unless permission has been obtained from the authors or disclosure is required by legitimate circumstances.
  4. Unpublished manuscripts shall not be used by editors or members of the editorial team for their own research or personal benefit. Such manuscripts shall remain confidential and shall not be exploited for any purpose without the author's explicit permission.

 

Reviewer Responsibilities

Reviewers of Sophia Dharma: Journal of Philosophy, Hinduism, and Society assist the editors in making informed editorial decisions concerning submitted manuscripts.

  1. Reviewers are responsible for providing professional, objective, and constructive recommendations regarding the manuscripts they evaluate.
  2. Manuscripts must be reviewed objectively, fairly, and critically, with recommendations supported by clear and substantive arguments.
  3. Reviewers should identify relevant issues concerning inappropriate citations, inadequate references, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, and plagiarism when detected in the manuscript under review.
  4. Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained during the review process and must not use any information from the manuscript under review for personal, academic, or professional advantage.
  5. Reviewers should promptly disclose to the editor any potential conflict of interest that may affect their objectivity and, where necessary, decline the review assignment.

 

Author Responsibilities

  1. Authors must present their research or scholarly work clearly, accurately, honestly, and responsibly, without duplication, data fabrication, data falsification, or plagiarism.
  2. Authors are responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and validity of the information and claims presented in their manuscripts.
  3. Authors must appropriately acknowledge and cite the ideas, statements, data, and works of other authors that are used or quoted in their manuscripts.
  4. Authors must prepare and submit their manuscripts in an ethical, honest, and responsible manner, in accordance with applicable scholarly writing and publication standards.
  5. Authors must submit manuscripts that comply with the journal's submission and formatting requirements and cooperate with the editorial and peer-review processes.
  6. Authors agree that their manuscripts may undergo editorial revision, language editing, and layout adjustment during the review and publication processes, provided that such changes do not alter the substantive content, research findings, or principal ideas of the manuscript without the author's approval.
  7. Authors must disclose any potential conflict of interest that may influence the research or publication process.
  8. Authors are responsible for ensuring that all individuals who have made substantial contributions to the research and manuscript are appropriately recognized as authors, while individuals who do not meet authorship criteria should not be listed as authors.
  9. Authors are required to submit a plagiarism-check report both at the initial submission stage and when submitting a revised manuscript. The maximum allowable similarity index is 25%.
  10. Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal.
